Ottawa at 613-736-5270 or visit www.volunteero­ttawa.ca Epic Walk Event Day: The Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation is dedicated to increasing cancer survivorsh­ip in Eastern Ontario by supporting cancer care and research to prevent, detect, diagnose and cure cancer. They need many volunteers for their Epic Walk Event Day on Sept. 26. The volunteer commitment varies from one to two hours on the day of the event. The Vanier Community Service Centre

provides a variety of bilingual services to the community. Volunteers are needed to assist in our playgroups and at the food bank. Playgroup volunteers provide support by greeting families and preparing snacks, as well as setup and cleanup. Food bank volunteers help by recycling containers, separating and packaging food, stocking shelves and assisting clients with their food choices. We need volunteers who are reliable, have people skills and are able to work in a team environmen­t. Training/orientatio­n provided and a police check is needed. Carleton Lodge Long Term Care

Home (Prince of Wales, near Strandherd) needs volunteers to visit, read to, play cards/games with residents, do manicures, serve in the Tuck Shop or pub, assist at mealtime, assist with gardening, and help with recreation activities. Volunteer literacy tutors urgently needed

for reading and homework with children, youth and adults at Frontier College. Calling retirees, profession­als, students and others who want to make a difference in their community! There are many program options at libraries and community organizati­ons that occur right after school, during the evening, or on Saturdays, for one to two hours each week. English and Frenchspea­king tutors are needed in Barrhaven, Greenboro, Downtown, Conroy, Kanata, and Gloucester. Training and guidance is provided.
