BROCKVILLE MUSEUM 5 HENRY ST., BROCKVILLE
This modest museum focuses on the people and industries that once defined Brockville. Along with prominent manufacturing families, one Con Darling gets his own display thanks to his love of dressing as a clown and parading a live chicken around town in a baby carriage. Industries honoured with artefacts include J.W. Smarts Foundry, Stetson Hats and, in the Carriage Gallery, handsomely restored automobiles and other vehicles and carriages once made in Brockville. Because this is a small museum, you’ll have time to visit nearby Fulford Place, a gorgeous Edwardian mansion at 287 King St. E. (heritagetrust.on.ca/Fulford-Place). It was built by Senator George Taylor Fulford who made millions from his patent medicine Pink Pills for Pale People. Look for tapestries, ceramics and more inside and, outside, Italianate-style gardens.
Hours (Brockville Museum): Open year-round; see website for details. Cost (Brockville): $2.50 and up.
