Naked Aussie traveller charged
Italy is running out of patience with foreign tourists making exhibitions of themselves in front of the country’s precious cultural heritage. An Australian known for performing naked handstands around the world is the latest to feel the sting of officialdom after being charged in Rome with committing “obscene acts” outside the Colosseum. Jonathan Scholes, 29, who bills himself as the Naked Handstander, has been posting images of himself in locations from the Great Wall of China to the wilds of Iceland. But Italian authorities, struggling to deal with tourists stripping off in front of ancient ruins, have now charged the red-haired acrobat, who is expected to be sentenced by a Rome judge before year’s end, daily paper La Repubblica said.
