More international assistance needed
Amid all the emotional concern over the refugee crisis in Europe, one thing seems to be forgotten.
There are millions of Syrian refugees located in the four countries surrounding Syria — Turkey, Iraq, Jordan and Lebanon. Refugees there are living in desperate conditions. Canada can be the most helpful by assisting people in these camps; they need lodging, food and water, but especially the children there need education and care.
When the dreadful situation in Syria has ended these people will return to Syria. In the meantime these millions of refugees need international assistance. The UN and the Red Cross are there, but their resources are badly stretched at present, as are the resources of the host countries. Eric Schiller, Ottawa
