Powerful stain remover works like magic on clothes

- LAURA ROBIN

What: BunchaFarmers’ Stain Remover.

Why: This small, pleasant-smelling stick is amazing. Just wet it, rub it on a stain, then wash as usual and the stain magically disappears.

“I’ve used it to get everything out of my daughter’s clothing — chocolate, grass stains, grease from pizza, blood stains and even red wine on my clothes,” says the assistant manager of FAB Baby Gear on Wellington Street West. “It’s a crazy good seller, mainly by word of mouth.”

We tried it on a stain from eating a juicy tomato sandwich, a mix of mayonnaise and fresh tomato juice. The stain lifted out in seconds.

You can also feel good about using it: it’s made in Canada, is environmentally friendly, smells good and contains only natural, biodegradable ingredients such as coconut, eucalyptus oils, lye and borax.

You’ll wonder how you ever lived without it.

Other uses: BunchaFarmers, a company based near Toronto and that actually operates several farmers’ markets, also recommends using the stick to lift out winter salt stains on shoes and boots, to clean car seats (melt a few scraps of the stick in hot water to make a washing liquid) or to brighten regular laundry loads by grating off a quarter inch of a stick and tossing it in the load.

Where: An odd assortment of stores, including FAB Baby Gear on Wellington Street West, Readi Set Go on Bank Street in the Glebe, Terra20 (Wellington West and Pinecrest Mall), Kardish health-food stores, Rainbow Foods on Richmond Road, Walmart, Pantry Plus in Orléans and even Mrs. McGarrigle’s Fine Foods in Merrickville.

How much: About $4 for 60-gram bar
