Matthew House Ottawa is

hosting the Ride for Refuge bike-a-thon on Saturday, Oct. 3, starting at 350 Legget Dr., Kanata (Mitel Building). A fantastica­lly fun, family-friendly event supporting charities serving the displaced, vulnerable and exploited. Choose to ride 10k, 25k, 50k or walk/ run 5k. Wiggle Waggle Walk: The

Ottawa Humane Society is hosting its 27th Annual Wiggle Waggle Walk-a-thon and third Run for the Animals on Sunday, Sept. 13 at Queen Juliana Park. In order for this event to be successful, volunteers are needed to help secure the race by staffing the barricades along the route. Setup, teardown and parking/direction volunteers also needed. Volunteers must be 18 or older, and will receive lunch, a T-shirt and the opportunit­y do something good for the animals. Christie Lake Kids is a nonprofit organizati­on serving Ottawa’s at-risk children and youth (ages 6-17) experienci­ng poverty. Volunteers needed to help offer opportunit­ies to learn, grow and build important life skills, providing barrier-free access to quality arts and sports programs, including everything from cooking, team and individual sports, drama, arts, hip hop and homework. Programs run after school and on weekends throughout Ottawa. A bus driver is needed for weekend programs. Training/orientatio­n provided and Police Check required. Compass Centre for SelfDirect­ed Learning needs volunteers who are passionate about their subject and working with youth. We are a community-based learning centre relying on volunteers to offer an array of interestin­g classes, workshops and tutorials to teens who are NOT in school. Your contributi­on will help them to learn, develop, and discover. Commitment is one hour per week, length of term is flexible, and orientatio­n is offered.
