Coming off a season opening 34-24 loss to the Queen’s Golden Gaels in a game they led 14-0, the Carleton Ravens were focused on a quick start in their home opener Sunday against the inferior Waterloo Warriors.

They did just that as they rolled to a 57-0 thrashing of the Warriors in Ontario University Athletics football action at Carleton’s MNP Park.

The Warriors are now 0-2 following last week’s 78-7 loss to the Guelph Gryphons.

“It was a game where we wanted to put our foot on the gas early and not stop,” said Ravens quarterback Jesse Mills, who opened the scoring with a 36-yard touchdown pass to Nathaniel Behar less than two minutes into the game.

Mills completed 12 of 15 passes for 226 yards as the Ravens led 18-0 after the first quarter and 35-0 at the half, thanks in large part to three rushing touchdowns from Jahvari Bennett. The first was a seven-yard sprint late in the first quarter and then two 10-yard scampers late in the half.

Michael Domagala had a punt single and field goals of 17 and 38 yards to go along with six conversions.

The Ravens are now 1-1 early this season as they look to build upon a 4-4 2014 campaign.

Next Saturday the Ravens visit the Windsor Lancers, who lost their season opener last week 76-7 to the Western Mustangs.

GEE-GEES 41, GAELS 17

Across town the University of Ottawa Gee-Gees opened their season Sunday with a 41-17 win over the Golden Gaels.

Derek Wendel threw touchdown passes of 42 and eight-yards to Mitchell Baines and one of 13 yards to Tristan Bailey. He also had a five-yard rushing touchdown.

Lewis Ward chipped in 15 points with his foot with four conversions, three field goals and two singles.

Bryce Vieira rushed for 110 yards and had 93 receiving yards while Ian Stewart had 113 receiving yards as the duo accounted for more than 60 per cent of the Gee-Gees’ 556 total yards of offence.

The Gee-Gees will travel to Hamilton to face the McMaster Marauders next Saturday.
