A memorial park tucked away in a corner at the Fallowfield station has been unveiled to honour the six people killed in the 2013 crash involving an OC Transpo bus and a Via Rail train.

The memorial is centred on a large boulder with a dedication to the victims and the words, “One event … many realities” inscribed on the front.

Green plaques were also erected throughout the park with the names of each person killed across the top.

Kyle Nash was a fan of Diet Coke and gummy bears, and was an independent spirit, one of the plaques read.

He died less than a month after his 21st birthday, on his way to class in his last year of university.

A quote was the only thing written on the plaque honouring 57-year-old Mike Bleakney:

“We learn something from everyone who passes through our lives. Some lessons are painful, some are painless, but all are priceless,” Bleakney’s plaque said.

Connor Boyd, 21, was remembered in the park as an amazing son, great brother and a good friend to many.

Robert More, 35, was born with cerebral palsy, but it never interfered with what he loved to do, his plaque said.

“The world lost an inspiration and a truly lovely human being who touched all of us in so many ways,” his plaque said.

Karen Krzyzewski, 53, was described as a loving mother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend who brought people together.

“Her heart was large and her giving immeasurable,” her plaque said.

A plaque for Dave Woodard, the OC Transpo bus driver killed in the crash, is not yet inscribed.
