Dow Honda hosting Family Day breakfast for volunteers
The plight of the Syrian refugees is a subject dear to Dow Honda owner Mr. Jeff Mierins’ heart. In 1944, his grandparents fled unstable Latvia, arriving in Ottawa after stops in Sweden and Ireland, to finally settle and build a life for their family.
The recent influx of Syrian refugees to Ottawa has shed light upon the immigration, settlement and refugee volunteer efforts in the city. In light of this, Mr. Mierins and Dow Honda are hosting a family day “Thank you” breakfast with an open invitation to all volunteers. Those interested in becoming a volunteer are also invited and Refugee613 will be on hand for more information.
From 9am - 11am on Saturday February 13th, attendees can enjoy a delicious family style pancake and Halal beef sausage breakfast from local philanthropist and caterer Dave Smith and refreshments will be served by Jeff Mierins and Dow Family members. Attendees will include Mayor Jim Watson, City Councillors Keith Egli and Michael Qaqish as well as Louisa Taylor; the director of Refugee613, Carl Nicholson; Executive Director of the Catholic Centre for Immigrants and several recently landed refugee families.
Dow Honda will also be presenting a Honda Odyssey van, to the Catholic Centre for Immigrants to support the day to day transportation of refugees, as well as a fundraising donation to go towards Worldskills agency to help provide career counselling and employment opportunities for recent immigrants.
The New Hot 89.9 will be on hand providing live music and entertainment and those interested in attending are asked to RSVP at 1event.info/dowthanksyou.
