Man facing more sex crime charges

A 54-year-old Ottawa man who has previously faced charges for sex crimes is now charged with sexual assault involving a minor.

Ottawa police charged Jacques Paquette, 54, earlier this week with one count each of sexual assault and sexual interference. The charges were laid after responding to a 911 call Tuesday which involved a report that a child under the age of 10 had been sexually assaulted inside a residence.

When police arrived they discovered the child had been sexually assaulted, allegedly by an adult male inside the home. They then arrested the man.

Paquette appeared in an Ottawa court Wednesday.

Police said Paquette has lived in recent years in the Casselman, Wendover, Hawkesbury and Curran areas and have asked anyone who believes they may have more information about the man or his activities to contact police.

Paquette has a long history when it comes to being charged with sex crimes.

In 1994, the man was charged with two counts of sexual interference, those charges were dismissed by courts.

In 2001, Paquette was facing two counts of sexual assault and sexual interference. Both of those charges were withdrawn.

In 2004, Paquette was convicted of sexual interference in relation to an incident with a young girl. He was released on bail and faced strict bail conditions, one of which forbade him from being alone with children under 14 unless a parent or guardian was present.

One year later, in 2005, Paquette was back in court, facing charges of sexual assault in relation to an incident with two boys, who were age 12 and 15 when the alleged incidents occurred. Paquette was acquitted on a charge of sexual assault in relation to the older of the two boys, however he was found guilty of sexual interference in relation to the incident with the 12-year-old.

He also pleaded guilty to three counts of breaching his conditions of bail. Paquette was sentenced to four years in prison.
