WHAT’S OPEN AND WHAT’S CLOSED?

It’s Canada’s big day, and the capital is the epicentre of the celebratio­n. Here’s what’s open and closed on July 1:

SHOPPING

The By Ward Market is a designated tourist area, and many of the 350 surroundin­g businesses have elected to stay open.

Stores in the Glebe and Lansdowne will remain closed.

Shopping centres are closed, with the exception of the Rideau Centre, which will be operating on holiday hours. Bayshore, Place d’Orléans, and St. Laurent will be closed.

Banks are closed.

FOOD AND DRINKS

Most grocery stores will be closed Friday, with a couple exceptions: the Loblaws on Rideau Street remains open and operating on holiday hours, and the Metro on Rideau Street remains open 24 hours.

All LCBO and Beer Store outlets will be closed, though some LCBO agency stores remain open in surroundin­g communitie­s.

Across the river in Gatineau, many SAQ stores will remain open, though some locations will have reduced hours. Check individual stores for details. Dépanneur corner stores for beer and/or wine are open in Gatineau.

PARKING

All usual parking restrictio­ns and regulation­s apply on Friday.

CITY HALL

City hall and all seven client service centres will be closed, with business resuming Monday, July 4. Provincial Court offices and all branches of the Ottawa Public Library are closed.

The City’s 311 Contact Centre will be open for urgent matters requiring immediate attention.

Ottawa Public Health clinics are closed.

WASTED PICKUP

There will be no garbage, recycling or green bin collection on Friday. Collection will be delayed by one day on the holiday schedule. See the City’s collection calendar tool for details.

CITY RECREATION SERVICES

Some outdoor pools, indoor pools and fitness centres will be open on a modified schedule.

All beaches, splash pads and some wading pools will be open, weather permitting.

Registered programs at the city’s swimming pools, fitness centres, community centres and arenas will be cancelled.

City-run summer camps are not operating for the day.
