In Holland, the bike rules the roads
David Reevely is right on when he says that streets with car lanes are seen as natural features of the landscape in our fair city. That is certainly true in North America with its car culture. We spend the winter in Sarasota, Florida, which has a surprising number of bike lanes, but you take your life into your hands every time you head out on them. Thankfully, the sidewalks are free of pedestrians so I can veer onto those when I feel unsafe!
Recently back from a cycling tour of Holland, where the bike is first and I mean, IT RULES, I realize how far we have to go. Like anything else, it’s about sharing. Susan Jessop, Ottawa
