Takei disappointed with gay Sulu
Out actor George Takei isn’t happy that Star Trek Beyond will show Sulu in a same-sex relationship. Takei, who played Sulu in the ’60s TV series, told The Hollywood Reporter that the film’s storyline would have gone against Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry’s vision. “I’m delighted that there’s a gay character,” he said. “Unfortunately, it’s a twisting of Gene’s creation, to which he put in so much thought.” Takei said he suggested to Roddenberry back in 1968 the series explore gay storylines. John Cho plays Hikaru Sulu in the current film franchise.
