Have a passion or skill to share? Compass Centre For Self-Directed Learning needs volunteers to teach classes and/or lead a tutorial. Compass helps teenagers live and learn without school by supporting teens to create a customized education based on their interests, abilities, and goals. Volunteer commitment: 60 or 90 minutes once per week for a minimum of 10 weeks. Volunteers needed for (but not limited to) the following: visual art, music, film production, journalism, web design, entreprene­urship, and languages (Japanese and Russian). Think of what you would have loved to have learned as a teen, and then contact us! Teaching certificat­ion not required. Assist Ottawa’s marginaliz­ed children by providing them with literacy, ESL and life-skills instructio­n. Training, materials and support provided. No formal teacher training necessary. movies: The Ottawa Family Cinema is a non-profit movie theatre run by volunteers in Westboro, operating every second Friday evening and every Saturday afternoon. Needed are snack bar cashiers and someone to make popcorn. A projection­ist’s assistant is also required, as well as a volunteer co-ordinator to respond to requests to volunteer with us, setting up and conducting interviews, managing the student community hour program, checking references of prospectiv­e volunteers, and updating the Volunteer Ottawa site for volunteer positions. The Canadian Cancer

Society needs volunteers to assist with pink ribbon sales in local grocery stores during the weekend of Oct. 1 and 2 to raise funds for breast cancer. Choose a time and location by visiting www.ottawa.myccssched­ule.ca. Also needed: volunteer drivers to bring cancer patients to and from cancer-related appointmen­ts.
