Carbon pricing, like other expert plans, will have unintended consequences

-

Re: A simple way to bring in a price on carbon, Oct. 3.

Another expert praises the notion of a carbon tax because it will make the public cut down on using gas. I have to admire these experts for finding yet another way to tax gas. What else can they tax, using the reason that it will cause us to conserve more?

I wouldn’t be surprised if, somewhere, an expert is figuring out how to control and tax moonlight. Too much full moon is not good for the environment.

Didn’t we use the same reasoning with hydro rates? Raise the price to cause less use of hydro, then, because revenues decrease, raise the rates. Let’s look into the crystal ball: a carbon tax reduces use of gas, revenues drop, then government raises the carbon tax rate.

Experts must think we rural layabouts are idiots.

?? THE ASSOCIATED PRESS FILES ?? If gasoline prices went down and tax revenues dropped, the government would raise the carbon rate.
