With autumn in full swing and the kids weeks into the new school year, perhaps it’s time that our thoughts turn indoors. Although some home decor trends of past years are holding strong, a few new exciting ones are emerging, and Alykhan Velji profiles a f

KINFOLK, COMMUNITY STYLE

We have seen this trend for a few seasons now, but it keeps coming up in fresh and interesting ways. This series of teapots — made by hand in Fernie — is sustainable and every piece is unique. The colours are soft and the patterns are reflective of mid-century designs, which definitely have a soft place in my heart.

MODERN ROCOCO

A new take on a crystal chandelier that screams modern drama. Crafted by acclaimed designer Lindsey Adelman, the large-format grey glass pieces and brushed brass give the fixture a modern edge while maintaining that crystal sparkle look. A stunning piece fit for any glam entranceway, or perhaps as something different over a dining table.

FORMAL DINING

Yes, it is true: the formal dinner is making a comeback. You can pull out your top-shelf china, serveware and glasses. It makes an evening feel extra special, and lets your guests know you really care. It’s sure to result in long, fabulous evenings of food, wine and great conversation. One of my top picks is dinnerware from Match. It’s casual refinement at its finest.

RATTAN REINVENTED

A fresh revamp on rattan is a strong trend. Everything from new forms with the classic weaving techniques to recognizable classic shapes married with new technology. This new technology makes it more durable and family friendly. I particularly love the classic French bistro style of the Germaine stools, fabricated out of polyresin for better durability. They’re sure to cheer up any kitchen.

ROCKS AND GEMS

The trend of minerals, rocks and gems and their interpretations into home decor is still hot. It offers an earthy, exotic charm when mixed into a multitude of decorating styles, from modern to traditional. This box provides just a small hit of this exotic stone into your home decor. It’s subtle, pretty and the perfect piece for a side or coffee table.
