Hospital land transfer begins

- ELIZABETH PAYNE

The Department of Public Services and Procurement has taken the lead on transferring the former Sir John Carling site to The Ottawa Hospital for a new Civic campus, Minister Judy Foote said Wednesday.

The department will meet with city, provincial and hospital officials to work through the details of the land transfer.

The federal government announced the proposed transfer of the site to The Ottawa Hospital on Dec. 2, after the hospital rejected Tunney’s Pasture, the initial site suggested by the National Capital Commission.

It is not known how long the transfer process could take.

Public Service says it is the custodian of land at 870 Carling Ave. as well as the remaining annex of the former Sir John Carling Building. The remaining land proposed as part of the new hospital’s 50-acre site is the property of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada.
