Little to show for 67’s weekends on the road

RANGERS 5, 67’S 3

-

A seven-game homestand is probably looking pretty good right about now for the Ottawa 67’s.

The 67’s dropped a 5-3 Ontario Hockey League decision at the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium on Sunday afternoon, leaving them with a single victory to show for six road games over the past two weekends.

While Ottawa has struggled at the TD Place arena so far in 201617 — it is currently 6-11-1 at home — the remaining regular-season schedule gives the last-place East Division team a prime opportunity to make up some ground.

The homestand begins with games Tuesday against Mississauga and Wednesday against Kingston ( both 7 p.m. starts), and 16 of the team’s last 22 games will be played at TD Place.

On Sunday afternoon, the Rangers, 26-15-4, opened up a 2-0 firstperiod lead and led 4-2 after 40 minutes.

Five different shooters beat Ottawa goalie Leo Lazarev, who faced 30 shots.

The 67’s, who fell to 18-23-5, had 32 shots on Luke Opilka. Kody Clark, who snapped a 36-game goal-scoring drought on Friday night, scored for a second straight game, with other goals coming from Zack Dorval and Travis Barron.

Ottawa’s power play continued to struggle, going 0-for-4, making it 1-for-15 on the weekend, which included a 7-2 loss in London on Friday and a 4-0 loss on Thursday in Windsor.
