Talks continue between Sens, prospect White

BOSTON If all goes well, Colin White will hit the ice Friday in Ottawa, rather than hitting the books.

Talks are continuing to try to make that a reality.

Senators assistant general manager Randy Lee has held talks with White’s agent, Kent Hughes, to try to complete a deal so the 20-yearold centre from the Boston College Eagles can join the club on an amateur tryout.

The Senators would like White, the No. 21 overall pick in the 2015 NHL draft, to join their AHL affiliate in Binghamton this week so he can make his pro hockey debut at Canadian Tire Centre on Friday against the Toronto Marlies.

It’s believed Hughes would rather have his client sign an entry-level deal. Since White would have a tough time finding playing time with Ottawa this season, the Senators want to burn a year on that contract.

The Senators had hoped to have a deal with White before they faced the Bruins at TD Garden on Tuesday night so he could attend the game with his family. White doesn’t want to return to school for next season, so both sides are trying to find common ground.

Winger Bobby Ryan, who missed 11 games with a broken finger, suited up against the Bruins for the fifth game since his return to action. He hadn’t scored in the first four games, but said he felt good.

“It took me one (game) to really get the feeling back,” Ryan said Tuesday morning. “(The March 18) Montreal game, I had a ton of scoring chances. I created a bunch of them and I just wasn’t able to get one to go. I’d like a couple of the shots back.

“I feel like I’m moving my feet better, getting to the open zone a little bit better. I’m trying to create a little bit (more). To be successful, I’ve got to get into a shooting area.”

Ryan said he had spent a lot of time doing homework with Senators head coach Guy Boucher.

“I feel pretty good about it. I’ve spent a lot of time watching video with Guy, I’ve spent a lot of time on it and I feel good about where I’m going down the stretch,” Ryan said.
