One dead, one seriously hurt in crash on Merivale Road

Emergency crews at the scene discover vehicle broken into multiple segments

A 27-year-old man died and a 20-year-old man was seriously injured in a violent single vehicle crash in the middle of the night near the corner of Merivale Road and Raven Avenue.

Emergency crews responded to the crash at 2:34 a.m. on Saturday, finding a vehicle that was damaged so severely that it had broken into multiple segments.

“Two occupants were found trapped inside one of the segments,” Ottawa paramedics said.

Firefighte­rs had to extract the two men inside.

A 27-year-old man who was in cardiac arrest was pronounced dead at the scene after attempts to resuscitat­e him proved to be unsuccessf­ul.

The 20-year-old man suffered “critical injuries to his lower extremitie­s” but remained conscious.

He was initially listed in serious condition, but on Saturday evening police said he was in stable condition.

Police are investigat­ing and continuing to seek witnesses to the crash.
