One dead, one seriously hurt in crash on Merivale Road
Emergency crews at the scene discover vehicle broken into multiple segments
A 27-year-old man died and a 20-year-old man was seriously injured in a violent single vehicle crash in the middle of the night near the corner of Merivale Road and Raven Avenue.
Emergency crews responded to the crash at 2:34 a.m. on Saturday, finding a vehicle that was damaged so severely that it had broken into multiple segments.
“Two occupants were found trapped inside one of the segments,” Ottawa paramedics said.
Firefighters had to extract the two men inside.
A 27-year-old man who was in cardiac arrest was pronounced dead at the scene after attempts to resuscitate him proved to be unsuccessful.
The 20-year-old man suffered “critical injuries to his lower extremities” but remained conscious.
He was initially listed in serious condition, but on Saturday evening police said he was in stable condition.
Police are investigating and continuing to seek witnesses to the crash.
