HOMELESS ‘HERO’ SAVES LIVES AS FIRE HITS STRIP MALL

-

A homeless man and a second man are being called heroes after they ran into a blazing strip mall to help occupants to safety. Kaden Clouston, 19, pictured, a client at the Calgary Dream Centre, a facility for those afflicted by addiction and homelessness, said he saw flames licking across the top of the Urban Square strip mall across the street. Clouston started barging into businesses and banging on doors to get people out. He then discovered a staircase to the second floor. “My instinct kicked in. I just had a feeling someone was up there.” He found a man getting a tattoo, and neither he nor the tattoo artist had any idea there was a fire. “By the time we got to the exit, the flames were three times as big,” said Clouston. Mackie Martineau also braved the flames to alert people. “They're heroes,” said District chief Wayne McQueen.
