The tragic misses: Rory McIlroy and Jordan Spieth

Spieth had his stunning collapse on the 12th hole on Sunday last year, but he won the year before and led for almost all of last year. It has been six years since McIlroy fell apart on the back nine on Sunday, but like Spieth he obviously has the talent and the game to win here.

On the back nine: Sergio Garcia, Lee Westwood

These two have been on the list of major contenders for long enough now that they have witnessed the emergence of a whole new generation of contenders even as they never won one. But Augusta tends to produce some enticing sentimental storylines. These guys as winners would qualify.

Green jackets: Danny Willett, Adam Scott

Scott won a few years back and Willett just last year, but they come in here somewhat under the radar. Spieth, obviously, could also appear in this category.
