JUST KEEP BARN DOOR CLOSED

-

A “barndominium” noted for its inclusion on HGTV’s Fixer Upper is going through a barnstorm of its own.

The converted barn that Chip and Joanna Gaines first featured on Season 3 of the home renovation series is on the market again.

Recent owner Kristi Bass had listed the 2,700-square-foot property in Lacy Lakeview, Texas, with help from her sister and real estate agent Jennifer Roberts, the Waco Tribute-Herald reports.

The property had been available to rent through the online vacation rental service, HomeAway. Unfortunately, Bass was forced to shut down the rental property after her neighbours grew concerned about the rising number of tourists that would visit the area to see, and stay, in the barndominium.

To run the property as a rental, Lacy Lakeview City council says it requires a permit. Council shut down Bass’s initial request last October.

A second permit request was submitted in March, which was also denied. At the time, Bass explained that she put other plans in place to ensure she could rent out the home.

As well as dealing with city council members, Bass now has to sell the controversial home.

Joanna Gaines designed the “barndominium,” which contains many of her signature design elements such as reclaimed wood, shiplap and other farmhouse-inspired pieces.

The interior also contains a contemporary kitchen and bedrooms on the first floor plus more living space on the second. The only caveat now seems to be this: avoid renting out the home to visitors.

According to the signage posted on realtor Jennifer Roberts’ Facebook page, the home will be listed through the Briggs Freeman branch of Sotheby’s International Realty.
