Chic condos in heart of historic New Edinburgh
Minto Beechwood condos located in heart of lively New Edinburgh, S. Evelyn Cimesa writes.
Nestled between Sussex, Beechwood and the Rideau River lies the historic neighbourhood of New Edinburgh. This lively area is known for its restaurants, shops and pedestrian pathways and is an ideal location for those who want to live in a residential area while still being close to downtown and the ByWard Market. The neighbourhood, filled with properties both old and new, has now welcomed its latest addition, Minto Beechwood.
Situated on the corner of Beechwood Avenue and MacKay Street, this boutique condominium building is located in the heart of New Edinburgh. The area offers one-ofa-kind shops, eclectic cafes, art galleries, pubs and restaurants within walking distance. Green spaces like Stanley Park and Rideau Falls Park are nearby, with the Rideau River’s Eastern Pathway a mere block away.
For Jeannie Thomas, who worked as a public servant for 31 years, most recently as the executive director of the Canadian Judicial Council, Minto Beechwood was an opportunity to make her dream of living in New Edinburgh come true. She moved to Ottawa over 40 years ago from Alberta.
“I’ve owned a home in Sandy Hill for 30 years but it was time for me to make a move. I love entertaining, and navigating the front stairs in my current home and stairway leading to the second level, was becoming challenging for friends and family. Having a suite that’s beautifully laid out on one level will make things more convenient for everyone,” she says.
In theme with relaxation and accessibility, Minto has incorporated a number of amenities into the building. Homeowners will be able to enjoy communal spaces such as a lounge with a fireplace, a fully-equipped fitness centre and an outdoor terrace with a fire pit and gas barbecues.
Residents can also reserve a private dining room when hosting events and parties as well as a conference room for their workrelated needs. Minto is also targeting LEED Silver certification for Minto Beechwood. This means careful adherence to strict energy and environmental standards that ensure the building is healthier and more efficient than a standard condominium.
Minto Beechwood was designed by award-winning Toronto firm TACT Architecture, which worked to create timeless architecture that blends in with the historic neighbourhood and streetscape. The interiors were crafted by II BY IV Design and feature a good mixture of sizes for different lifestyles.
Each unit features smooth 8.5-nine-foot ceilings, engineered hardwood floors, Caesarstone countertops, ceramic tile backsplashes and walk-in showers. With luxurious living and sleeping areas, gourmet kitchens and spacious master ensuites, second bathrooms and powder rooms, the building can accommodate a variety of family and life situations.
“The suite design is stunning and the neighbourhood is lovely. It’s perfect. I love to travel and Minto Beechwood is going to be a wonderful place to come home to,” says Thomas.
Last weekend, Minto held its second open house for the boutique condominium. With the property at a more advanced stage of completion, Minto was able to showcase the exterior cladding on the building and the amenity spaces available to all residents. In addition, two fully-outfitted model suites will be available to tour: the Elmdale model, an 823 square-foot one bedroom plus den on the second floor, and the Manor model, a 1,200 square-foot two bedroom plus den on the third floor. The models were decorated by KISS Design Group’s Donna Correy and Tracey Woodman.
The eight-storey boutique condominium building features 129 total suites, fewer than 10 of which are still available for sale. Buyers can customize their units to create a unique personalized space.
