SMART HOME TECHNOLOGY

Builder raises the bar

- S. EVELYN CIMESA

As technology progresses, there’s great potential for improvement in the quality of our lives. We’re able to organize ourselves, connect with our loved ones and complete research with just the push of a button — often on our cellphones. With each new app comes another opportunity to control everything with just one device. And, for eQ Homes, it means giving homeowners the opportunity to monitor their homes.

Having just been named the Best New Home Builder in Ottawa, eQ Homes further raises the bar by offering homeowners an exclusive built-in high-tech eQ Smart Home. The technology will be incorporated into each new single-family home, townhouse and condominium and will enable homebuyers to program moods (light settings) for different times of the day or events (i.e. movie night). You can also control your temperature settings, light settings and locks from both within and outside of the home.

The local home builder has partnered with Lutron, as well as other leading home technology suppliers, to offer a standard package within all of their new homes. The technology will be delivered through Caséta Wireless and will allow homeowners both take control of their home’s settings and monitor their usage. When setting up the system, a Lutron technician will visit the home to install the system and instruct homeowners on how to program their lights, temperature settings, scenes and more.

Each home will include the standard package, which consists of a Nest Thermostat control, Lighting Controls by Lutron and the Lutron Caséta Smart Bridge Pro App. It can help homeowners save up to 15 per cent on their utility bills. Upgrade packages are available.

The Nest Thermostat control allows homeowners to adjust their home’s temperature on-the-go from their phone and monitor their home’s heating and air conditioning while they’re away on vacation. The Lighting Controls by Lutron allow homeowners to turn lights on and off from their phone. Additionally, they can program the lights so it looks like someone is home while they’re on vacation for increased security and convenience. The Lutron Caséta Smart Bridge Pro App is essentially the brain of the Smart Home system — homeowners use it to control their lights, thermostat and other features.

“I have the eQ Smarthome package installed in my home and my wife and I really like the convenience and ease that this provides to simplify our lives and daily routines!” says Tobin Kardish, eQ Homes’ Marketing Manager.

Homeowners won’t have to worry if they left the lights on or locked the door. They won’t have to worry if the basement has flooded while they’re away. They have the ability to lock and unlock their doors from afar for construction works, maintenance crews or even for their children, arriving home from school. Interested homebuyers can explore this new technology at eQ Homes’ Fernbank Crossing; all of its new models feature the innovative Smart Home technology.
