Last night’s three stars...

We asked fans at the Pittsburgh game on Monday night for their favourite hockey stories.

GEOFF SMITH

Shoots: L From: Richmond, Ont. Height: 5’ 11” Weight: 208 pounds Occupation: Retired (“Living the dream”). “My story takes place on my neighbour’s outdoor rink, way back about 20 years ago. My youngest son wanted to learn how to shoot. And he thought, ‘Yeah, my father ... maybe he can tell me. Maybe not.’ So I said, ‘Here’s how you take a shot. Now there’s the net, and I’m going to shoot this top-left corner.’ And he says, ‘Yeah, yeah, sure.’

“So I wind up and take my shot, and into the top-left corner it goes. It blew his mind. Blew his mind. He thought, ‘My God, my father can shoot.’ So he thinks his father can shoot, but it was pure luck. Absolute luck. He thought I had the technique and it blew his mind.

“So I never shot again after that. And I never, ever told him that it was pure luck.”

TIM BOND

Shoots: L From: Ottawa Height: 5’ 10” Weight: 200 pounds Occupation: Store owner, Bond’s Decor “I never really played hockey, but I remember this one moment. It was during the playoff run when (the Senators) actually lost to the Penguins — the last one, I believe. The Senators were down in the game. They actually lost the game, and they were playing terribly. And Alfredsson took the puck in his own zone on a short-handed play, and went end to end and scored a goal.

“It was just one of those moments. It’s like he just took over that one moment to say ‘I want to show them that we’re still here.’ I mean, they were playing terribly, but he had that one moment. There was no chance (Ottawa) was going to win the game, but he had that moment. It’s a Senator moment that I remember the most. It said something about life. They were all down, playing really bad, the season was a writeoff, and it was a last gasp that kind of said, ‘We’re still here.’

“And it was an Alfredsson moment, and that’s who’s on my back.”

ANTOINETTE KACZMARCZYK

Shoots: R From: Toronto Height: 5’ 2” Weight: 122 pounds Occupation: Director of music production with Céline Dion “I live in Toronto. I had a brain tumour when I was a sophomore in high school. In 2014, I’d had an operation and I was about four days out of surgery and wanted to get season tickets to the Leafs. I was in a wheelchair and my head was covered at the Leafs stadium. I was a Leafs fan but I think I only knew two players on the Leafs. But I was working and I didn’t know how long I had left, so I wanted season tickets. For some reason, Dion Phaneuf was there, with some media people, outside. And he came up and talked to me, and said he wanted to give me some tickets, and he gave my family and me tickets for the season-opener. I did not even know him, and he just sat there like a normal person. I’ve met a lot of celebrities because of my career, and normally people are like, ‘You’re so lucky to meet celebrities.’ And I say, ‘But you don’t WANT to meet them, because it ruins your perception of them.’ But he sat down and was like ‘I know what you’re going through, and I want to make this special for you.’ And ever since then he’s earned my respect, and I’ve been one of his fans.”
