CHER PORTER

“A couple of months ago I was at a real low point in my life. I had moved out, living on my own, I had to do everything by myself. I wasn’t in a good place, and I had gone to the welfare office to try and get welfare.

“And wouldn’t you know it, I bumped into an old friend there — a friend of a friend that I hadn’t seen in a few years — and he happened to give me an amazing opportunity that I couldn’t refuse.

“He was like, ‘Cher, what are you doing here? It’s so weird that you’re at the welfare office. I know you’re capable of doing so much more.’ And I said, ‘yeah’ and told him my story, and he said, ‘You know what? I’m going to give you a job.’ And me, being at my lowest point, thought it would be some random job, like at a store, but he ended up giving me an acting career job. And since then I’ve been doing acting and modelling for Vogue, I’m doing boxing, I’m doing acting classes, I’m travelling. My life is fully changed. And I realized that I had to go to my lowest point to fulfil my career, which is now acting and modelling. Next year in Toronto, I’m actually modelling for Seven Models agency. It changed my life dramatically. This was just two months ago, and I’m getting my scripts soon and we’re going to Hollywood soon, to L.A., for a Netflix series, Through the Eyes of Jimmy D.

“This is crazy. I can’t believe my luck because, honestly, in my whole life I never was a lucky girl. I would never win stuff at lotteries or competitions and contests, but being given this opportunity is the biggest chance of hope. Anyone can have this opportunity; you just need to push a little farther.”
