HAPPY CANADA DAY

-

One hundred and fifty days ago, the Citizen launched special coverage of Canada’s 150th year and Ottawa’s sesquicentennial celebrations. Over the past five months, we have profiled the people who built our nation’s capital, highlighted some of the odd, fascinating and important bits of our city’s history and shared your wishes for the Ottawa of tomorrow.

Thank you to the readers who took the time to call and write to us with suggestions about features, events and people we should profile, as well as those of you who shared your remembrances — and even cherished family photos — from Canada’s year-long centennial celebrations in 1967.

I would like to extend my deepest appreciation to the 150 Ottawans who participated in our Capital Voices series. I have heard from readers near and far who were moved to call, write and even show up in person to tell me the series made them feel more connected to the city and people around them.

Today’s Citizen features 16 pages of Canada Day coverage in two special commemorative sections.

In addition to regular weekend features like Comics and Puzzles, you will find:

A two-page pullout map and guide of events happening around Parliament Hill and across the city. You can also download it to your phone or print it out by visiting http://ottawacitizen.com/news/local-news/ausers-guide-to-canadaday-in-the-capital

A guide to what is open and what is closed this long weekend.

For news, traffic and weather updates throughout the weekend, as well as coverage of events across the city, visit us online at ottawacitizen.com or on Facebook at facebook.com/theottawacitizen

Thank you for celebrating with us and Happy Canada Day!
