We need tougher traffic ticketing

Re: Speed-linked deaths on Ontario roads increase dramatically, OPP say, June 28.

The numbers released by the OPP regarding speed-related road deaths and excessive and aggressive speeding for 2017 are staggering, but sadly, are not surprising.

Already 30 deaths related to speeding and a whopping 1,400plus drivers charged with driving in excess of 50 km/h: Am I the only one who thinks this is ridiculous? I have to drive around the OttawaGatineau region everyday for work and have been doing so for 15-plus years.

I am amazed at how bad drivers are in many respects, speeding being the foremost.

Speeding has become acceptable on our roads. There are few police issuing tickets.

I don’t think drivers will ever stop speeding and driving aggressively unless they become afraid of the consequences of getting a ticket. To achieve this, a lot more tickets need to be issued with fines/demerits drastically increased. Until licences and bank account balances are threatened to slow down speeders, we all live in danger of becoming a statistic.
