Chew on this gum recipe

-

Forget buying gum: why not make your own at home, using a few ingredients — and a microwave?

To start off, reports Eater.com, take 60 grams of corn syrup and place in the microwave for about 20 to 30 seconds to soften to liquid form. Once it becomes just the right texture, melt 60 g of gum base in timed increments, stirring each round until it’s malleable and completely melted. (Use a microwaveable container that you can dispose afterward.)

Combine the corn syrup and the gum base, stir thoroughly, then add a flavouring of your choice, such as lemon grass, basil, lemon or bitters.

Then use 75 g of confectioners (or powdered) sugar as a bench flour. Knead the gum until there aren’t any sticky parts left — it might have to be stretched out, refolded, and kneaded a couple more times to completely incorporate.

Discard any excess confectioners sugar and roll the gum into a long snakelike form. With a knife, cut the long tube into one-inch (2.5-cm) pieces. Finally, wrap in wax paper bits and display for all to see.
