Let’s hold federal government to account for Phoenix fiasco

-

Re: Holding their horses on Phoenix move, Nov. 29.

I can’t get over the meek acceptance by the news media of the Phoenix pay system fiasco. The auditor general’s report was a one-day wonder, soon forgotten. It’s not just a horrendous waste of public money by the government but it’s a horrible hardship for many employees.

Having worked in IT, I know that a vital part of switching to a new system is testing and testing and testing. Also, the old system is kept in reserve in case something goes wrong. The government failed in both cases to do this.

It should be held to account for wasting half a billion dollars and counting. Just think how many beds could be added in hospitals and how many houses could be built for the homeless with that kind of money. Rafal Pomian, Ottawa
