Silence deafening on Norman

-

Re: DND declares Norman guilty, Jan. 23.

While I was with the Armed Forces, the joke about military justice was thus: “Let the wheels of justice spin and march the guilty bastard in!” In the case, or more appropriately lack of case, against Vice-Admiral Mark Norman, this seems not to be an exaggeration.

We will be told by the government, RCMP and DND that we, the ignorant public, do not know the whole story. That is probably true. However, the public does know that there is due process and that knowing the charges against oneself is only just.

Should we be deemed guilty we also believe — I think — that punishment is in accordance with the crime. None of the above seem to apply to one of Canada’s most respected military leaders. He and his family seem to be punished already.

None of those arrayed against him have said a peep to justify their actions and one might have expected them to take some ownership of the story. The silence is deafening.
