Wrong-wAy DrivEr on HighwAy 5

Ottawa Citizen - - CITY -

A man driving south in the northbound lanes of Highway 5 in Gatineau avoided hitting anyone, but ended up under arrest. A little before 2 a.m. on Friday, an RCMP officer stopped by the side of the northbound lanes to help with a broken-down car when he saw a car coming southbound toward him on the wrong side of the highway, which has a concrete median. The Mountie, who was nearly hit, set off after the driver and after pulling him over found his blood-alcohol level was more than double the legal limit. The man, who was not named in a news release Monday, will be in court next month on a charge of impaired driving. It’s not known how far he had driven in the northbound lanes.
