Homi­cide vic­tim found shot in car ID’d as a stu­dent

An Al­go­nquin Col­lege stu­dent has been iden­ti­fied as the city’s fifth homi­cide vic­tim of 2018 af­ter he was found in­side a car Sun­day in the City View dis­trict.

Ot­tawa po­lice said Egal Daud, 30, had been shot.

His body was found at about 10 a.m. in a car in the park­ing lot of an apart­ment com­plex at 32-50 Northview Rd., which is south­east of the in­ter­sec­tion of Merivale and Base­line roads.

On Sun­day af­ter­noon, of­fi­cers in two SUVs sat parked along­side the white, snow-cov­ered Honda Civic in which the body was found.

Yel­low crime scene tape cor­doned off a play­ground and small wooded area ad­ja­cent the park­ing lot as plain­clothes of­fi­cers from the ma­jor crime unit went door to door through the neigh­bour­hood.

Daud had been fin­ish­ing his stud­ies in the heat­ing, re­frig­er­a­tion and air con­di­tion­ing pro­gram at Al­go­nquin Col­lege.

Toni Danielle said she and Daud be­came fast friends sev­eral years ago af­ter meet­ing him through mu­tual friends.

“He was amaz­ing. I can’t even imag­ine him hav­ing en­e­mies,” Danielle said.

She was shocked when she heard of his death, and said he had a con­ta­gious smile, with­out “a bad bone in his body.”
