Homicide victim found shot in car ID’d as a student
An Algonquin College student has been identified as the city’s fifth homicide victim of 2018 after he was found inside a car Sunday in the City View district.
Ottawa police said Egal Daud, 30, had been shot.
His body was found at about 10 a.m. in a car in the parking lot of an apartment complex at 32-50 Northview Rd., which is southeast of the intersection of Merivale and Baseline roads.
On Sunday afternoon, officers in two SUVs sat parked alongside the white, snow-covered Honda Civic in which the body was found.
Yellow crime scene tape cordoned off a playground and small wooded area adjacent the parking lot as plainclothes officers from the major crime unit went door to door through the neighbourhood.
Daud had been finishing his studies in the heating, refrigeration and air conditioning program at Algonquin College.
Toni Danielle said she and Daud became fast friends several years ago after meeting him through mutual friends.
“He was amazing. I can’t even imagine him having enemies,” Danielle said.
She was shocked when she heard of his death, and said he had a contagious smile, without “a bad bone in his body.”
