SIU called in after woman shot

The province’s Spe­cial Investigations Unit has been called in after a woman was shot and two La­nark OPP of­fi­cers in­jured dur­ing a con­fronta­tion in­volv­ing an ag­gres­sive dog in Al­monte on Tues­day. The SIU said in a news re­lease Tues­day night that at about 10:15 a.m., two OPP of­fi­cers ar­rived at an Al­monte home and while on the porch, two dogs came out of the house. Both of­fi­cers were bit­ten and one of­fi­cer fired sev­eral shots at one of the dogs, the SIU said. One bul­let struck the 64-yearold woman who was on the porch with the of­fi­cers. She and both of­fi­cers were taken to hospi­tal for treat­ment, the SIU re­lease said. The dog died at the scene. The SIU con­ducts crim­i­nal investigations into cir­cum­stances in­volv­ing po­lice and civil­ians that re­sult in se­ri­ous in­jury, death or al­le­ga­tions of sex­ual as­sault.
