Twenty years ago this summer, we started preparing the debut issue of Vines Magazine, looking to share our passion for wines made in Canada by sharing the stories of the people who made them. The goal was to inspire thirst for wine appreciation and enjoyment.

We launched the publication in November 1998.

Over the years, the editorial focus has always been on quality wine. As a cash-strapped journalist, quality at an affordable price was always top-of-mind.

Planning our 20th anniversary edition, the team was struck by how many best-value bottles championed from the beginning continue to be affordable and delicious. The ability to impress year after year makes them truly worthy of your attention.

The great news for consumers is today’s examples are even higher quality than the original versions that captured our imagination.

Twenty years of farming and making wine has dramatically improved what’s in the bottle.

Cave Spring and Vineland Estates were founded on the bedrock of Riesling and continue to release a compelling array of styles.

Meanwhile, Gamay is (finally) catching on with the new breed of sommeliers and influencers as one of Niagara’s It- Grapes for its easygoing appeal.
