Leaning Post

The Fifty Chardonnay 2015 Ontario

★★★★

$21.95 (Vintages# 578864)

The Fifty is a reference to the original name of the town of Winona, which is home to Leaning Post Wines. It’s a Chardonnay designed to reflect vintage and variety, without the crutch of obvious oak influence or other winemaking techniques. The resulting fresh, focused and direct character make it a winner. This limited release at LCBO Vintages is worth seeking out.

San Marzano Tramari Rosé di Primitivo 2017 Puglia, Italy

★★★1/2

$14.95 (Vintages# 556258)

Here’s a fresh and nicely balanced Rosé that offers attractive fruity and savoury notes. The Primitivo grape is a close relative of Zinfandel, but this crisp and refreshing rosé isn’t likely to be mistaken for white Zinfandel. This is good value for its price.

Stags’ Leap Winery Chardonnay 2016 Napa Valley, California, U.S. ★★★★

$39.95 (Vintages# 655381)

Prior to taking the top job at Stags’ Leap, winemaker Christophe Paubert’s resumé included positions at Château d’Yquem and Gruaud-Larose in his native Bordeaux as well as high profile projects in Chile, Spain and Washington State. He brings a deft touch to this full-bodied and flavourful Chardonnay that’s worth the splurge.

Waterkloof Seriously Cool Chenin Blanc 2017 Stellenbosch, South Africa ★★★1/2

$17.95 (Vintages# 443382)
