HUNTER BACK ON KNIGHTS SHIFT
After four years away from the London Knights, co-owner Mark Hunter is returning to the general manager’s job with the Ontario Hockey League team.
Hunter was the GM of the Knights for 14 seasons before giving way to Basil McRae when he left in 2014 to become director of player personnel for the Toronto Maple Leafs.
He later became the NHL team’s assistant general manager.
Hunter was hoping to land the role of Leafs GM when Lou Lamoriello left, but that job went to Kyle Dubas. Hunter said he did receive offers after he left Toronto, but they weren’t what he was looking for.
“Your heart has to be in the right place,” Hunter said. “I enjoy managing and it’s just something I love to do. I love being involved in hockey and being involved with Dale (Hunter, his brother and the Knights’ coach and co-owner).”
