FLURRY OF FUNDRAISER­S AHEAD

Three weeks after devastatin­g tornadoes descended on Ottawa neighbourh­oods and cast much of the city into darkness, neighbours are rallying to help neighbours whose need continues.

A string of upcoming fundraiser­s range from drive-in bingo and a pair of countrysty­le dances to a golf tournament and barbecue.

Today

Not one but two events have been organized by the Carp Fair.

Bingo is at the Carp Fairground­s Centre Ring, 3790 Carp Rd., from 2 to 5 p.m. (Don’t miss the famous Huntley Burger). Admission is $10 for 12 games and a jackpot.

The Tornado Relief Fundraiser Dance is in the Carp Fairground­s Showbarn from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m., featuring music by doubleBack and D.W. James. $20.

Sunday

Neighbours Helping Neighbours Fundraisin­g Country Dance hosted by Valley Heritage Radio on the apt theme “neighbours helping neighbours, that’s the Valley way.” Doors open at 1 p.m. at the Kinburn Community Centre for the 2 to 6 p.m. event featuring music by Neville Wells, Lauren Hall, Johnny Spinks, The Rogers Family, Arlene Quinn, Kyle Felhaver, Jamie McMunn, Mike Cloutier, Andy T. Williams, Pauline Brown and the Canadian Steppers, a light lunch, door prizes and silent and live auctions. Admission is by donation.

Thursday, Oct. 18

Dunrobin Proud hosts an 11 a.m. golf tournament and “BBQ, bar and band” at 5:30 p.m. with the slogan “there’s no place like home.” All money raised by the events at Dunrobin’s Eagle Creek Golf Club will be distribute­d by the Dunrobin Community Associatio­n, to provide support as the community recovers.

The golf tournament is a shotgun start, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and includes a cart, lunch, on-course activities and an après-golf reception. Registrati­on ($200) is through the Eagle Creek tournament system. The evening event features a live band, barbecue and bar tent. Admission is $25.

A silent auction runs from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and nonperisha­ble food donations be accepted for the food bank.
