Celebrities go crazy for their cats

- MELISSA HANK

Celebrities aren’t kitten around when it comes to their love for their cats. In the last week or so, several reports about stars and their whiskered pals have surfaced. Alison Brie and Dave Franco, who married last year, told Architectural Digest they have a whole room set aside for their two cats. “It’s solely decorated with these really terrible paintings, watercolours of cats in outfits that my best friend from college sends me every year from Orlando, Fla.,” Brie said, adding that feline-friendly curios fill the rest of their home. “We have a little sort of glass plate that says in Italian ‘Beware of the cats’ and there are two cats ... Whenever we see art of any kind with two cats on it, you know, we are like crazy cat ladies and we’re obsessed with it.” Not to be outdone, actress and singer Bella Thorne recently told the Los Angeles Times that she has 19 furry friends living in her house. Apparently she started with two and ended up with almost a baseball team’s worth within a year. “She didn’t want her first cat, Lola, to be spayed because she thought it was barbaric, and now there are four generations of cats living here: Nuzzling against your knee, crawling up the screen windows, tearing down metallic streamers,” reads the piece. Finally, reports have revealed that Bono, Pharrell Williams and Michael Stipe have all contributed to French conceptual artist Sophie Calle’s new album, which is dedicated to her dearly departed cat, Souris. The recording, titled Souris Calle, is available on Spotify.
