Man faces sev­eral child porn charges

A 34-year-old Kingston man has been charged with a num­ber of child pornog­ra­phy of­fences after a seven-week in­ves­ti­ga­tion. Po­lice say the in­ves­ti­ga­tion be­gan on Nov. 22, when an on­go­ing mon­i­tor­ing op­er­a­tion de­tected a com­puter that was matched to a Kingston IP ad­dress con­nected to a file-shar­ing net­work. Sus­pected child pornog­ra­phy dig­i­tal files were cap­tured from the com­puter. On Dec. 21, de­tec­tives ob­tained judicial au­tho­riza­tion to iden­tify the sub­scriber of the in­ter­net ser­vice and a Kingston ad­dress was listed. Po­lice raided the Kingston ad­dress on Wed­nes­day. A num­ber of dig­i­tal de­vices and data stor­age me­dia were seized in the raid. Foren­sic ex­am­i­na­tion re­vealed ev­i­dence of dig­i­tal files be­lieved to meet the Crim­i­nal Code def­i­ni­tion of child pornog­ra­phy. The sus­pect, who was present dur­ing the raid, was ar­rested. The man, who po­lice did not iden­tify, has been charged with pos­ses­sion of child pornog­ra­phy, ac­cess­ing child pornog­ra­phy and pos­sess­ing child pornog­ra­phy for un­law­ful pur­poses.
