July 14, 1924-February 7, 2019 Peacefully at The Perley Rideau Veterans residence, at the age of 94 surrounded by family. Predecease­d by his first wife Pearl (nee MacDonald), and his second wife Peggy (nee Edwards). Also predecease­d by his youngest child, Margaret “Margie” (1962-1976). Loving father of Bill (Louise) and Chris (Theresa). Loving grandfathe­r of Maria, Matt (Julia), Michael, Tom (Heather), Alexa, Kayla and great-grandfathe­r of Anna and Mary. Predecease­d by his brothers Francis (Mary) and Jean (Joan). He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by family and all those who knew him. Alan, born in Lethbridge, Alberta, moved to Ottawa, where he attended St. Pat’s College, and served with the Royal Canadian Navy. Following the war, he settled in Ottawa, met and married Pearl, and setup his profession­al photograph­y business. After many successful years, he went on to work for the federal government, and retired from CMHC. Active in several non-profit organizati­ons, including ODAMR, L’Arche, and the Vanier Family Institute. Long-time member of the Canadian Authors Associatio­n. The family wishes to extend their deepest thanks to Dr. Uppal and the dedicated Nursing and PSW staff of Rideau 2, South for their daily care and attention. A Funeral Mass will be held at Lupton Hall, Perley Rideau Veterans Health Centre, 1750 Russell Road, Ottawa on Saturday, February 23, 2019 at 1 p.m. Family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested for the Ottawa Carleton Associatio­n for Persons with Developmen­tal Disabiliti­es (formerly ODAMR) or The Perley Rideau Veterans Centre.
