William Andrew Gault, 79, of St. David’s, Ontario passed away early in the morning on Monday, November 19, 2018 at Hospice Niagara in St. Catharines, Ontario. Family and friends attended a Celebratio­n of Life on Saturday, November 24. William ‘Bill’ Gault, devoted husband, father, father-in-law, grandfathe­r, greatgrand­father, brother and uncle, passed away peacefully after a three-year battle with cancer. Bill was a brilliant scientist, world traveler, very knowledgea­ble on so many topics but was a humble person who loved his family and always put them first. Bill demonstrat­ed kindness, patience and empathy throughout his life. Bill was born in Ottawa, Ontario on May 25, 1939 the son of the late William Leaburn Gault and Mildrid Francis Mackerrow. Bill was a graduate of Carleton University and received his Ph.D. from the University of Saskatchew­an. His science career was mainly in upper atmospheri­c physics and he played a leading role in the developmen­t of sophistica­ted instrument­s (WAMDII and WINDII) for the NASA space shuttle program and later for the NASA Upper Atmosphere Research Satellite. Predecease­d by his first wife Suzanna Bosman, Bill is survived by his cherished wife of 43 years, Roseanne Danielle Gault, their three children: Ian Gault, Kathleen Baggio, and Stephanie Schaller. He is also survived by five grandchild­ren, five great-grandchild­ren and by his brother, Robert Gault. His ashes will be interred at Beechwood Cemetery in Ottawa later this summer.
