William Andrew Gault, 79, of St. David’s, Ontario passed away early in the morning on Monday, November 19, 2018 at Hospice Niagara in St. Catharines, Ontario. Family and friends attended a Celebration of Life on Saturday, November 24. William ‘Bill’ Gault, devoted husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, greatgrandfather, brother and uncle, passed away peacefully after a three-year battle with cancer. Bill was a brilliant scientist, world traveler, very knowledgeable on so many topics but was a humble person who loved his family and always put them first. Bill demonstrated kindness, patience and empathy throughout his life. Bill was born in Ottawa, Ontario on May 25, 1939 the son of the late William Leaburn Gault and Mildrid Francis Mackerrow. Bill was a graduate of Carleton University and received his Ph.D. from the University of Saskatchewan. His science career was mainly in upper atmospheric physics and he played a leading role in the development of sophisticated instruments (WAMDII and WINDII) for the NASA space shuttle program and later for the NASA Upper Atmosphere Research Satellite. Predeceased by his first wife Suzanna Bosman, Bill is survived by his cherished wife of 43 years, Roseanne Danielle Gault, their three children: Ian Gault, Kathleen Baggio, and Stephanie Schaller. He is also survived by five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and by his brother, Robert Gault. His ashes will be interred at Beechwood Cemetery in Ottawa later this summer.
