GRIFFITHS, Donald "Powell"

-

June 24, 1935 - February 4, 2019

It is with very heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Powell, on February 4, 2019. He is survived by his wife, Edna "Eddie", nee Seay, and stepchildren whom he thought of, loved, and treated, as his own, and who considered him Dad: Jim Pinhey (Peggy), Bruce Pinhey (Karon), Alex "Lexie" Andersen (John), and grandchildren Brent (Laurie), Scott (Kelly), Tara, Lucas (Jodi), Tiffany "Manah" (Jeff), and great-grandchildren Acadia, Saffi, Abby, Dexter, Oliver, Charlie, Eddie and Robyn. Powell was born in Montreal, Quebec, and after moving to Ottawa had a very successful career in the printing business, as co-founder and co-owner of M.O.M. Printing, The Envelope House, and Graphic Display Canada. The orange M.O.M. Printing truck was well recognized around the area. He was a brilliant, well respected, entrepreneur, with wonderful ideas and a knack for envisioning business opportunities and making them work. It was his hobby. After retiring from the printing business, he purchased and grew the International Beauty Depot, and Classy Gift Baskets. He was considerate, kind, generous, and an incredible inspiration to those that worked, and played, alongside him. He was such a character, and an excellent judge of character, who not only loved fun, but loved to create fun times for others. He had a very quick wit, and loved jokes. He changed and shaped so many of the lives he touched for the better. He loved the home he shared with Eddie on Hill Island on the St. Lawrence River so much that he had personalized license plates in tribute to the place he loved so much. There are those who have wondered and asked through the years what ILMFR on his car‘s license plate mean. He loved to say it meant "I Love My Family Responsibilities", but those who knew him well, knew it really stood for "I Love My F---ing River!" Back in the late ’70s and early ’80s he loved spending time on his boat, My Toy, in Alexandria, NY. Many wonderful times with family and friends were spent on My Toy. He was a big kid at heart, whose love for Mickey Mouse is well known. He lived a full, rich life, that touched countless people, and leaves behind a legacy of wonderful memories. We will all miss him dearly. Friends are invited to visit the Online Tributes page at Cole Funeral Services www.colefuneralservices.com to leave messages, stories, condolences or photos. Special thanks to the nurses and doctors on the 8th Floor West at The Ottawa Hospital, General Campus, for their excellent and attentive care for Powell during his final days, and to the kind consideration they also gave to his family.
