Senators can’t fool us once again

-

Re: In huge deal, Ottawa Senators trade Mark Stone to Las Vegas, Feb. 26. Eugene Melnyk bought the Ottawa Senators in 2006. The following 11 players, largely developed by the Senators, have left in since 2006. Of the 11, all but one has played for his country and at least six have been NHL All Stars: Zdeno Chara, Mike Fisher, Daniel Alfredsson (twice), Jason Spezza, Mika Zibanejad, Jakob Silfverberg, Kyle Turris, Mike Hoffman, Erik Karlsson, Ryan Dzingel and Mark Stone.

To that list of “Departed Senator Stars” we can add Marc Methot and Matt Duchene, both of whom showed star power in a Senator’s uniform.

Now why, in God’s green earth, would I ever imagine that in the future the Ottawa Senators will re-sign the future stars that are now being groomed to eventually improve other NHL teams? Why should we renew our half-season’s tickets? Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me.
