Hur’s record score snags open crown in Scotland

South Korea’s Mi Jung Hur shot a 5-under 66 to pass Thailand’s Moriya Jutanugarn and run away with the title by four strokes at the Ladies Scottish Open in North Berwick, Scotland.

Hur’s final total of 20-under 264 blew away the previous low score for the Ladies Scottish Open.

Ariya Jutanugarn, Moriya’s sister, had the previous best at 13-under 271, set last year.

Moriya Jutanugarn came into the day with a one-stroke lead, but shot an even-par 71 to finish 16 under for the tournament, tied for second with South Korea’s Jeongeun Lee.

Hur bogeyed the third hole, but got the stroke back with a birdie on No. 9. She then birdied five of the final nine holes to put the title out of reach.

Hur, who now has three career titles, also became the seventh South Korean to win an LPGA event in 2019.

South Korea’s Mi Hyang Lee finished alone in fourth place after shooting 3-under 68 for the second straight day to finish at 15 under for the tournament.

“My goal for the day was just to enjoy my golf and just stay dry from the rain and just keep focused on my game,” Hur said, per Sky Sports. “That was working really well today and it (brought) me a good result.”

The lone Canadian in the event, Alena Sharp of Hamilton, Ont., shot 2 over on Sunday to finish at 2 under for the tournament, tied for 43rd overall.

Ariya Jutanugarn also shot 3-under 68 and finished in fifth place at 13 under, one year after winning the tournament with the same score.

Australia’s Minjee Lee followed up Saturday ’s best round (7-under 64) by shooting 4-under 67 to finish in a three-way tie for sixth with American Elizabeth Szokol and Anne van Dam of the Netherlands.

Lee was in 60th place heading into the weekend.
