BURNT ORaNGE THE NEW WHITE?

-

Some call it burnt orange, amber or terracotta. Whatever its moniker, earthy shades of orange are the new go-to colour as homeowners opt for hues that connect with nature and add a warm feel.

The new popularity shows how decorators are moving on from minimalism and white, though not quite adopting a bold statement like pure orange or tangerine nor going quite as bland as tan or beige.

“We see burnt oranges being used in kitchens paired with trending navy and dark green cabinets,” says Dee Schlotter, senior colour marketing manager of PPG paint. “Burnt oranges are also trending in bedding and can be paired with blue walls in bedrooms to create a calming, restful space.” Muted orange can also be dotted around as pottery, pillows or throws. The shade’s yellow hues can impart happiness in the home as opposed to a sterile white or a dominating red.
