Raptors shuffle coaching staff; struggling Jays continue to lose

-

Turns out the addition of Fabulous Flournoy and Mark Tyndale to Nick Nurse’s coaching staff wasn’t the end of the changes alongside him on the Toronto Raptors bench.

Brittini Donaldson, a data analyst already on staff with the Raptors, will assume the old analytics coaching position held by Eric Khoury.

Khoury will join Jama Mahlalela with the G-League’s Raptors 905 this season.

Donaldson becomes the 10th woman to join an NBA coaching staff.

Jon Goodwillie, whose primary role with the Raptors has been in the video room, will leave that behind and join Nurse’s staff on court as well.

“Couple of good promotions, especially for Goodwillie,” Nurse said.

Goodwillie handled the head coaching duties with the Raptors’ Summer League team in Las Vegas and is in China on Nurse’s staff with Canada at the World Cup.

Blue Jays fans should be just as pleased only 18 games remain this season as Tampa Bay supporters are disappointed to see this struggling Toronto team leave town.

The hometown Rays swept fading Toronto in four straight to take a solid grip on the top wild-card spot with 10 wins in 11 games.

Meanwhile, this year can’t end quickly enough for the free-falling Blue Jays, losers of seven straight, the franchise’s worst run since 2017, after Sunday’s 8-3 series wrapper.

Tampa’s pitchers surrendered only 10 runs and 22 hits during the four games, striking out 50 Jays hitters.

Tampa Bay’s Tyler Glasnow gave up one hit, a home run to Randal Grichuk, while striking out five. Reuters
