New York City to ban foie gras

-

New York City Council recently voted 42-6 to ban foie gras in the city’s restaurants, Reuters has reported. The delicacy, usually sourced from geese or ducks, is made by force feeding the fowl, via feeding tubes stuck down their throats, which causes their livers to swell up to 10 times regular size. The ban won’t begin until sometime in 2022, leaving the roughly 1,000 restaurants in the city serving foie gras — which means fatty liver in French — plenty of time to change their menus.
