Second man sought, charge upgraded in fatal stabbing
Major crime detectives have issued a Canada-wide warrant for the arrest of an Ottawa man in the Halloween night slaying of Austin Simon on Murray Street.
Police have also upgraded a murder charge against a second man already in custody.
Wanted Brandon Longo, 24, is charged with manslaughter, Ottawa police said in a release Friday.
Meanwhile, a charge of second-degree murder has been upgraded to first-degree murder against Ignace Kayiranga, 33, who remains in custody.
Police allege Longo bought the knife that was used to stab the victim and was present during the attack. That alleged act of premeditation has led police to also upgrade the charge against Kayiranga from second-degree murder to first-degree.
Anyone with information about Longo’s whereabouts is asked to call the major crime unit at 613-236-1222, ext. 5493, or can call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or download and use the Ottawa police app.
Simon, 39, was fatally stabbed on Murray Street.
